Preventing deadly blast due to LPG leakage

It is learnt that members of a family in Curchorem had a miraculous escape after the gas cylinders suddenly caught fire while some of them were cooking in the kitchen which destroyed kitchen furniture and other home appliances. It is understood that there were two cylinders in the kitchen and both caught fire causing injuries to one of the family members. It is vital to keep a check on the hose pipe connecting the cylinder to the gas stove for any leakage. Old pipes need to be replaced. The LPG distributor or the company must assign a representative to carry out periodic checks of the LPG hose pipe. It would be advisable to use reinforced steel-wire LPG hose-gas pipe. There needs to be proper ventilation in the kitchen and even an exhaust fan installed to avoid accidents due to gas leakage. Consumers need to be apprised by the company of the various safety measures to be adopted while using LPG cylinders. Care needs to be taken to see that no electrical switch is switched on whenever there is a smell of leaked gas.
