Save Goan clubs in Mumbai

The Goan clubs in Bombay which were also known as Bomoiche Goenche Kudd in Konkani have played an important role in the lives of Goans who went to Mumbai in search of jobs abroad.

There were around 450 Goan clubs in Bombay, but presently only around 160 such kudds remain. Each Kudd is named after a Goan village and most of the kudds are in Dhobi Talao, Mazgaon and other surrounding areas.

From 18th century Goan migrants flocked to the commercial hub of Bombay in search of jobs. Seaman would also halt at such Kudds before starting each voyage or spend a few days before heading back to Goa for breaks.

Presently, the Kudds are dying a slow death. Goans who had stayed there or are still having ties to such Kudds should come forward to save and protect these Goan clubs in Bombay.
