The Goa government’s promise of Rs 3,000 annually under the Ujjwala scheme for three LPG cylinders sounds attractive, but the reality on the ground is very different. Long queues and shortages are already troubling consumers. With conditions and exclusions attached, many families may not even qualify, especially those already receiving benefits under other government schemes. So, is this truly a benefit for the common Goan, or another election-time promise?
We have seen similar promises before. The so-called free water scheme was stopped after the elections, while soaring electricity bills are now putting additional pressure on ordinary households. People deserve reliable services, transparency and an affordable cost of living — not repeated promises before every election. Goans should ask: Where are the promises made last time, and how many more promises will we believe this time?
