Political influence is reaching beyond Goa to places like London. Just as the Revolutionary Goan Party (RGP) attracted attention in the past, Goa Forward has now gained international recognition, with its leader Vijay receiving a prestigious award in the UK. This raises an important question: can Goans living abroad influence Goa’s political future, and do they have voting rights that could make a difference? Goa’s political landscape is also changing as more people from outside the State settle here, adding to the diversity of its electorate.
While Vijay has earned praise for his work in the Fatorda constituency, he cannot expand Goa Forward’s presence across the State without strong allies. Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao has welcomed the possibility of an alliance with the Congress in the interest of Goa. Experience remains valuable, but Goa also needs fresh leadership. Giving younger leaders an opportunity alongside experienced politicians could bring new ideas, energy and a stronger vision for the State’s future.
