With the Goa Assembly elections less than a year away, it is disappointing that the Opposition parties, which claim they want to replace the present government, still do not appear to have a clear strategy. After the recent excitement over a party with a similar name, the momentum seems to have faded. Instead of working together and actively holding the government to account, there appears to be little visible action.
It is surprising that some Opposition MLAs are spending time abroad while the government faces several important issues at home. There is nothing wrong with taking a holiday, but this is also a time when the Opposition should be presenting itself as a strong alternative.
Goa faces many challenges, including poor public transport, growing garbage problems, rising unemployment and the need to protect the state’s fragile environment. These are issues that affect people’s daily lives and deserve greater attention. The Opposition has enough issues to question the government, but it has yet to present a clear plan or a convincing vision for Goa’s future. As a result, the concerns of the common people continue to go unheard.
