Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajeet Rane on Tuesday said he was unaware of the protest staged by Karapur-Sarvan villagers at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against the proposed mega project in the village, remarking that he does not watch television.
"I don't know anything about it. I don't watch television,” Rane shot back when audio-visual journalists tailing him after an official function questioned him.
"Elections are near," he also said apparently hinting that the agitation could be politically driven.
Rane also refused to comment on the "Enough is Enough” campaign’s proposed protest against Section 39A of the Goa Town and Country Planning Act, slated to be held on July 17.
"No comments. Everything is legal and will continue to be legal. I will not give any reaction on the matter,” Rane said when pressed for a response to the planned agitation.
The "Enough is Enough" movement led by former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Ferdino Rebello, has called for the protest against indiscriminate land conversions using provisions under Section 39A of the TCP Act on July 17.
