Mhadei: CM’s charge against Congress raises queries

Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s charge that the Congress had ignored Mhadei when in power has thrown up a host of questions. One, who’s this Congress Chief Minister Pramodbab is referring to? Is he still part of the Congress party or has since defected to embrace the BJP? If the Congress Chief Minister is now in the saffron brigade, has Pramodbab Sawant had a word with him why he and his party had ignored Mhadei? And, whether Pramodbab believes that the presence of former Congress MLAs in the BJP will help solve the Mhadei imbroglio. Many a question indeed remains unanswered.

BJP-backed MMC councillors lacked coordination at meet

The saffron brigade was in a tizzy after party leaders found lack of unanimity amongst BJP-backed Margao Municipal Councillors on Mhadei. A senior party leader was aghast with the manner in which party councillor Camilbab Barretto was shouted down by party colleagues at the municipal meeting when he took on the Goa Forward party and party chief Vijaibab Sardesai. Sources wondered how come there was no coordination in the BJP camp when they had a tuition session at Diggu’s Malbhat residence two days before the meeting. Interesting, isn’t it?

Mhadei resolution: All eyes on p’yat secretaries, civic COs

Have the village panchayat secretaries or the Municipal Chief Officers anything to say on BJP chief Sadanandbab Tanavade’s initiative, calling for the passage of resolutions at the grassroot bodies in support of Mhadei? For, activists recall that many a Panchayat secretary in the recent past, acting as  agents of their political masters, opposed passage of resolutions on issues centered on environment, pollution and demography on grounds they do not fall in the domain of the local bodies. Any takers?

When Margao civic councillors struggled to pronounce Mhadei

It was a week when river Mhadei came to be referred as Mhadav and Mhadavi at the Margao Municipal Council during discussion on the burning issue, indicating the level of awareness amongst ordinary Goemkars on the contentious issue. At the meeting, a couple of Margao Municipal City Fathers struggled to pronounce Mhadei, calling the river either Mhadav and Mhadavi. Indeed, Mhadei somehow failed to find mention on the politico-social agenda in Saxttidom or down South over the years. Any questions?

Cabral-Venzy inspect Sinquetim bridge, come under citizens’ lens

Whether PWD Minister Nileshbab Cabral and AAP Benaulim MLA Venzybab Viegas have buried their hatchet remains unknown. The duo came under the lens of Navelim and Benaulim citizens on the banks of river Sal when the PWD Minister came to inspect the controversial Sinquetim bridge initiated by former PWD Minister Bab Churchill over a decade ago. The Cabral-Venzy duo was seen engrossed in discussions over the issue. The Benaulim MLA even offered a couple of suggestions for consideration of the PWD minister to break the stalemate over the bridge. Any questions?

Once vocal on State issues, Reginaldo now goes silent

Guess why is the irrepressible Curtorim MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco silent on the major issues plaguing the State? Is it because he is now part of the ruling BJP-led government headed by Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant and holds the position as IDC Chairman? Well, pose the question to the Independent Curtorim MLA and apt comes a reply that he has now restricted himself to issues facing Curtorim constituency. Reason: He claims he has long been accused by his opponents back home that the MLA takes up issues concerning the State, but ignores pressing issues affecting Curtorim. Is that the real reason, behind Reginaldbab’s silence or is there something more than meets the eyes.

Reports that the local BJP is bracing up to take on with its counterparts in neighbouring Karnataka over Mhadei makes reading interesting. In fact, questions have been raised on the social media whether the saffron brigade can fight the Karnataka unit of the BJP when the party Goa desk in-charge is C T Ravi, hailing from Karnataka. How will State BJP chief Sadanand Tanavade or Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant grapple with the emerging situation remains unclear. Wait and watch…
