It was a week when Congress leaders anxiously awaiting the return of Congress Goa desk in-charge, M Tagore in the State, but for a different reason. Tagore’s itinerary during his three-day visit includes launching the Haath Se Haath Jodo Abhiyan in Ponda, the follow up programme of party leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo campaign. Congress circles, however, are abuzz with speculations that Tagore is expected to do an assessment of the party’s situation in Goa, including assessment of the performance of party leadership. When Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai was on the Holy Spirit Church grounds earlier this week as part of his Heritage Yatra, heritage promoter Sanjeevbab Sardesai drew the governor’s attention to an adjoining building which played host to three bullet marks on the wall. As Sanjeevbab explained how the September 21, 1890 massacre of citizens over Municipal polls, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai tried to fire some shots at the BJP ruled Margao Municipal Council, complaining against its non-functioning. After 17 yrs, Kamat to share dais with arch rivals at Shigmotsav
Before Margao MLA Diggu returned back to the BJP after a gap of 17 years, Diggu had a running battle with the saffron brigade, be it to control Margao or the local civic body or over hosting of programmes, including Shigmotsav. Perhaps for the first time over a decade and half, Diggu will be sharing the Madgaon Shigmotsav Samiti dais with arch rivals, including former Fatorda MLA Damubab Naik. Unlike in the past, when the city had played host to two Shigmotsav festivals, Diggu is now the unanimous President of the Madgaon Shigmotsav Samiti. Any questions?
Reginaldo wary of emerging BJP developments in Curtorim
Supporters of Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco may suddenly realise that the BJP is active in his Curtorim backyard though he is a supporting partner of the BJP-led government. They seemed to have taken cognisance of that fact that BJP leaders from Curtorim including Dr Snehabai Bhagwat, ST leader Anthonybab Barbosa are not only vocal, but are actively working at the grassroots in the constituency. The Independent MLA, however, seemed to have taken the emerging development in his stride, aware that pulls and pressures, checks and balances are integral part of politics. Any takers?
Save Mhadei: Is Luizinho collecting technical details for legal battle?
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Luizinhbab Faleiro seemed contributing his bit in his own way to save Mhadei. He is one of the few politicians who personally headed to Karnataka to see the ground reality on Mhadei. And, he made it a point to table questions on Mhadei in the Rajya Sabha. Sources now say Luizinhbab is keen in taking up the legal battle, right in the Supreme Court, and is on the job, collecting technical details from environmentalists waging a sustained battle to Save Mhadei.
