Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda hammered CAC Cansaulim 6-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the 43rd St Joseph Festival football tournament organised by Dramapur Sports Club at Dramapur ground on Monday. Sweton Rebello of Don Bosco was the star of the match with his assists to his teammates and powerful shots. In the second minute itself, Clifford Noronha opened the scoring for the Fatorda team. Sweton then netted a hat-trick, scoring in the 28th 42nd and 47th minutes. Hanslum Furtado and Maxwell Furtado netted a goal.each in the 50th and 56th minutes respectively to make it 6-0. For Cansaulim, Keneth Da Costa and Aaron Fernandes missed chances.
Quepem Veterans reach quarterfinals
Quepem Veterans beat Salcete Veterans 5-1 and moved into the quarterfinals of the Varca Veterans football organised by Varca Veterans at Varca ground on Monday. Quepem Veterans netted a hat-trick through Jaffar while Jerry and Jason netted a goal each for Quepem Veterans. Melwyn Fernandes netted a goal for Salcete Veterans and was awarded the Man of the match award.
GFA general secretary Lopes resigns
The general secretary of Goa Football Association, Jovito Lopes resigned from his post on Monday. Lopes in a letter addressed to president Antonio Pango has said that he decided to resign under Article 29.3 with a view to provide working opportunities to the new leadership. The resignation has been an accepted. Mormugao zone executive committee member and general secretary of Salgaocar FC Adlear D'Cruz will take over and he will be assisted by Jonathan D'Souza and Welvino Menezes.
Damodar HSS win zone IV girls football tourney
Damodar Higher Secondary School, Gudi Paroda won the zone IV U-19 girls football tournament with a 1-0 victory over Guardian Angel HSS, Curchorem in the final. The tournament was organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs at sports complex Borimoll Quepem. Simran Carvalho scored the all-important goal in the second half. Government HSS, Canacona won the 3rd place.
