Cuncolim Union overcame Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 3-2 to advance into the quarter-finals of All Goa Late Joao Francisco memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Betalbatim Sporting Club at Betalbatim Sports Complex on Friday. Cuncolim Union led 3-0 at the break.
Cuncolim Union dominated the game and adjusted to the wet ground conditions and troubled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids.
Clifton Fernandes put his team in front in the very 2nd minute. Spurred by the lead, Cuncolim Union intensified their attacks and fired a couple of shots and in the 17th minute, Nilesh Velip scored the insurance goal. Bharat Gaonkar put the issue beyond doubt in the 30th minute.
Post resumption, Cuncolim Union slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to strike rhythm and called the shots against the rival citadel. Alex Rodrigues reduced the margin in the 40th minute.
The reducer boosted the morale of Cavelossim lads as they build pressure on the rival goal and in the 50th minute, Hasten Vaz reduced the deficit. Cavelossim went all out in search of the equalizer but rival defenders stood tall in protecting their slender lead.

Albert Developers Veterans defeated Varca Veterans 7-2 to move into the quarter final of the boys of Loutolim/ Camorlim in association with Jose Cookies Veterans football tournament at church ground, Loutolim on Friday.
