Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda humbled St Anthony, Colva 4-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the 1st VJT Cup 2023 inter-village football tournament organized by Enfermos Sports Club at Church Ground, Chinchinim on Thursday.
The match started with both teams playing with high intensity and trying to break the deadlock, but they were met with strong resistance from the defenders. The first goal came in the 27th minute when Joel Colaco sent a well-placed shot from outside the box that gave no chance to the St Anthony goalkeeper.
St Anthony tried to respond immediately and almost equalised in the 32nd minute when Samson Colaco made a run from the midfield and unleashed a powerful shot, but it was brilliantly saved by the Don Bosco goalkeeper. The second half saw Don Bosco increase their lead and assert their dominance over St Anthony.
In the 48th minute, Clive Miranda scored the second goal for Don Bosco with a solo effort, dribbling past several defenders and slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Nine minutes later, Elroy Baretto made it 3-0 with a well-placed shot. The final nail in the coffin came in the 68th minute when Francis Andrade scored the fourth goal for Don Bosco with a volley from inside the box.
Guirdolim SC move into quarterfinals
Guirdolim Sports Club edged past Guardian Angel Sports Club Curchorem 4-3 to sail into the quarterfinals of the 15th St Anthony's Festival inter-village football tournament organized by St Anthony's Sports Club Assolda at Moll Ground, Assolda on Thursday.
Guirdolim led 2-0 at half-time. Guirdolim held the upper hand in the opening session and Mario Fernandes struck. Moises D'Sa and Luie Noronha were the other scorers for the winners. Jaison Dias, Ciril Dias and Godwin scored for Guardian Angel.
Tennis ball cricket selection trials
PANAJI: All India Senior Tennis Ball Cricket Championship for men & women will be held in Himachal Pradesh from July 29-31. The Goa team 2nd stage selection trials will be held on June 26 at SAG ground, Campal at 3 pm and on June 27 at Panchayat ground, Cola, Canacona at 3 pm. Interested players may report to Hemant Khot, Kirtan Vaiz, Haresh Parsekar or Nilesh Naik with Aadhaar card and complete playing kit.
