Dempo Sports Club had an easy outing in their opening encounter as they drubbed Bardez Football Club 5-0 in a Goa Professional League match, organized by GFA and played at Duler Grounds on Thursday.
Bardez FC coach Savio Roy Dsouza started with eight North East players and three local lads while Dempo coach Samir Naik fielded all his local lads.
The Golden Eagles went into the breather with a one goal cushion thanks to Pruthvesh Pednekar’s 26th minute strike, that was set up by Latesh Mandrekar.
If not for the Bardez keeper Urgen Pinto heroic saves, Dempo would well be up by 3 goals. In the 38th minute, Latesh sent a fantastic cross inside the 6-yard box, that was brilliantly pushed to safety by keeper Urgen. And then in the 45th minute, the keeper got his hands to the ball off a cross from Boris de Mello in the nick of time, a second before Beevan D’Mello could connect it.
Then began the goal rush. The Golden Eagles struck two quick goals in the 46th and 47th minute. It was U 20 Pruthvesh who was left unmarked at the far post, who tapped the ball into the goal off a Suraj Hadkonkar cross from the right flank to make it 2-0. In the very next minute, Jessel sent an intelligent through pass to Beevan D Mello, who after getting hold of the ball took a couple of steps and placed the ball past the helpless keeper to make it 3-0. In the 84th minute, Dempo’s Jessel crossed a ball from the left flank into the goal to make it 4-0. Substitute Gaurish Naik found substitute striker Jaison Vaz inside the penalty box , who slotted the ball into the far corner of the goal to make it 5-0.
Wilred Leisure SC, Pinto’s YC post wins
PANAJI: Wilred Leisure SC defeated Canacona SA 4-1 in a Goa Football Association U-14 League match played at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Thursday.
Wilred led 2-0 at the break after Ryan Rodrigues and Macnelle Dias netted in the 26th and 29th minutes respectively. Changing ends, Macnelle completed his brace in the 59th minute with a sublime finish before Elton Mascarenhas scored the team’s fourth. Sumeet Pagi pulled one goal back for the losing side.
In another match, Pinto’s Youth Club of Baradi registered a fluent 2-0 win over Tilamola United Spots Club. Nash Fernandes and Tinon Fernandes scored for the winners.
