Football Club of Bardez registered a fluent 3-1 win over Corps of Signals in a 12th round match of the Goa Professional League organised by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Thursday.
Both the teams, starting with 11 points each in their kitty, started earnestly but it was FC Bardez that went into the breather leading by a 2-1 margin. Clinton Niasso netted a brace for FC Bardez, with Romans MS scoring one for the Signals.
Corps of Signals coach Rateesh R brought in just one change in the starting line-up by fielding Chand Singh in the defence after their loss in the last league match to Dempo Sports Club. At the other end, FC Bardez in-charge Armando Colaco -- with his team having drawn their last league match against new entrants Panjim Footballers -- was all focused to take full points from the match and made three changes in his team’s starting line-up, fielding Lalbabu Mahto, Gaurav Vaigankar and Joliston Rebello.
It was the Pink Brigade that broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Jessel Carneiro sent a long ball to Kirtikesh Gadekar who lobbed the ball over an advancing Signals keeper Binu Purushothama, where an overlapping Clinton Niasso tapped the ball
home, 1-0.
The Armymen exerted pressure on the rival citadel and levelled the terms in the 18th minute as Ramans MS headed the ball into the goal off a corner from Pawan Thakur, 1-1. In the very next minute, Signals could have taken the lead but Chand Singh’s header off a cross by Pawan was cleared on the goal-line by Joliston Rebello.
Bardez doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Clinton, getting hold of a cross from the right flank by Shubham Dessai, finished with a fierce grounder 2-1. Three minutes before the breather, Signals U-20 player Cyril Dias intercepted a back pass but saw his shot at the goal being blocked by Bardez defender Krishnanath Shirodkar.
On crossing over, the match was totally restricted to midfield till five minutes before the end of the regulation time. In the 83rd and 84th minutes, Signals’ Pawan Thakur and Th Roshan Singh strikes at the goal were collected comfortably by keeper Aliston Fernandes.
At the other end a blistering right-footer from Shubham Dessai was stylishly fisted away by Signals keeper Binu for a corner.
However, Signals keeper Binu could do very little to prevent Jessel Carneiro from scoring the third goal. Jessel made a neat placement after getting hold of a ball from Lalbabu Mahto after Signals Amit Tariyal failed to clear the
ball, 3-1.
