National modern kho-kho championship opens at Sanguem

Second Modern National Kho-Kho Championship 2015 for men was inaugurated at Sanguem Sports Complex ground by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Monday evening. The chief minister wished luck to the participants and appreciated efforts made by the organisers to promote the Indian sport.

On the occasion, Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai, who is the chairman of the organising committe of the championship thanked and welcomed 20 teams from the country which are participating in the event which concludes on November 25.

Phaldessai said that modern kho-kho is a new concept wherein the traditional game of kho-kho has been modified and rule changes have been adopted to give it a modern standardized look, to attract more youth towards the sport. "Kho-kho is India's game. There is a need to promote modern kho-kho and practice as we want youth to take it up," Phaldessai added.

Parsekar in his address said that it was great to see a national level kho-kho championship happening in a remote place such as Sanguem. He appreciated the efforts and the enthusiasm shown by the participants and the various teams from India.

For the inaugural function, BJP party president Vinay Tendulkar, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, and ZP south president Navnath Naik were present among other dignitaries.
