Salgaocar Football Club registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Vasco Sports Club in a tenth round match of the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium on Saturday.
With this win, Salgaocar stay on fourth place with 17 points from eight matches while Vasco SC stay on seventh position with 10 points from ten matches.
Both the goals for the Green Brigade came in the second session of play through Selwyn Miranda (68th min) and Devendra Murgaonkar (86th min).
Salgaocar in-charge Levino Pereira gave Flagan Rodrigues his debut game while he also made two other changes with Selwyn Miranda and Jason D’Mello coming in.
At the other end, Vasco SC coach Micky Fernandes made just one change by fielding Schubert Pereira in his starting XI.
In the eighth minute, Hussain Pinjar shot a power-packed right footer from close range but it was brilliantly saved by a diving Salgaocars keeper Jaison D’Mello.
Three minutes later, Aman Govekar found Hussain just outside the penalty box, who after dribbling past two defenders, sent a cross at the goal mouth, only to find Salgaocar’s Rollwin Almeida clear the ball to safety.
After some midfield play in the 23rd minute, the Green Brigade came close
to opening their account when Rollwin set up Mackroy Peixoto, whose strike
at the goal traveled over the post. At the other end, Anil Gaonkar saw his header off a cross by Inacio Colaco sail over Salgaocar’s crossbar.
The Green Brigade had a great chance to take a lead in the 36th minute but Saurabh Patil missed a sitter.
On crossing over, in the 55th minute, a goal bound strike by Vasco’s Beneston Barretto went just past the side post while at the other end,
a bicycle kick by Salgaocar’s Selwyn Miranda went skywards.
The Vasco lads were unlucky in the 62nd minute when Sanwil D’Costa’s free kick was smartly headed at the goal by
Denvil Fernandes but keeper Jaison managed to push the ball out for a corner.
While the Port Towners failed to score, Salgaocar broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when Devendra Murgaonkar’s shot was blocked by keeper Sanju and the ball rolled to Selwyn Miranda, who tapped the ball into the goal to make it 1-0. In the 86th minute, Devendra collected a pass from Ronaldo and scored from an acute angle to make it 2-0.
