After being outplayed by Youth Club of Manora in their opening match, Cuncolim Union started the game on a postive note and rocked the rival citadel in the 16th minute when midfielder Moses D’Sa picked up the ball from Presley Pinto and fired home giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper Clinton Silva. Cuncolim Union doubled the lead in the 38th minute when Samson Simoes, who received the ball from Prseley Pinto and unleased a snap shot to beat the goalkeeper.
At the other end, Velsao took time to settle down and had a few shots against the rivlal citadel but could not get past rival goalkeeper David Rebello. Cuncolim Union inflated their tally in the injury time of the first half when Presley Pinto fired home off a cross from Steven Fernandes.
Post resumption, Cuncolim Union slackened in their pace and allowed their opponents to manoeuvre inside their territory. Casiano Soares was constant threat and Velsao’s efforts bore the fruit when Ronil Azavedo sent a long through pass to substitute Jowet Baretto, who put it past the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 50th minute.
The reducer helped reinvigorate Velsao who tested a jittery Cuncolim Union defence. Velsao found a much-needed second goal in the 53rd minute when Ronvil Azavedo headed home off Viraj Naik’s chip from the flank.
Stunned by the reducer, Cuncolim Union went into the attacking mode and unleashed a barrage of attacks and in the 67th minute, Samson Simoes made it 4-2 with a defence-splitting pass from Necil Pinto. Samson Simoes drove the last nail into the rival coffin in the added-on time off a cross from Nash Pereira from the right to also register his hat-trick.
With this win, Cuncolim Union now have 3 points from two matches while Velsao Sports and Cultural Club suffered their first defeat hand have three points from same number of encounters.
