UC Palolem, Goan Warriors cruise into quarter-finals

United Club of Palolem secured an emphatic 4-1 win over St Rock's Youth Sports, Calata-Majorda to enter the quarter-finals of South Goa McDowell's N0 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament at Government School Village Playgrounds, Cuncolim on Friday. United Club of Palolem led 3-0 at the breather.
The highlight of the day was a brilliant brace by Savlon Cardozo and Chaitan Komarpant and Tristan Falcao, adding the icing on the cake.

rs and pushed their oppoents on the back foot for major part of the game. They conjured umpteen scoring opportunites.
At the other end, St Rock's Youth Club were struggling to grasp the game and were restricted to their own half. United Club of Palolem were on the top of their game as they won many a second balls with the rival defence finding tough to gain a balanced ground.
Chaitan Komarpant broke the deadllock in the very 6th minute when he picked up the through pass from Sclachie Cardozo and the former ran through Majorda team defenders and beat the rival goalkeeper with a firm shot. Thereafter United Club of Palolem dominated the proccedings for the rest of the half. Spurred by the lead, United Club of Palolem upped the ante and increase their tally in the 29th minute when Savlon Cardozo cleverly beat the rival defenders and the goalkeeper with a neat finish after receiving a through pass from Chaitan Komparpant cross. After taking a 2-0 cushion, United Club of Palolem inflated their tally in the 31st minute when Savlon Cardozo who ran down the rival peanlty box unleashed a stiff shot that crashed into the net, leaving the Majorda defence dazed and in the process registering his brace.
United Club of Palolem could have quadrapled their lead in the dying embers of the first half but their forwards misfired from hand-shaking distance. The halftime scoreline read 3-0 for Palolem.
The second half turned out to be a pale complexion of the first half as neither team created clear goal-scoring opportunties in the initial period of the second half.
St Rock's kept nibbling away and reduced the margin in the 50th minute when Flyod Fernandes' teasing volley beat the Palolem goalkeeper hands down.
Unfazed, United Club of Palolem went into attacking mode when Tristan Falcao's stiff shot eleuded the rival goalkeeper with a fine shot off Chaitan Komarpant in the 69th minute to make it 4-1. However, United Club of Palolem could have done much better in terms of scoreline with numerous missed opportunities over a non-existent Majorda midfield.
In North Goa, Goan Warriors made short work of PVC Parra 2-0 to enter the quarter-finals at Anjuna Gymkhana grounds on Friday.
There was no score at lemon-break. In the early minutes of play, Vishnu of Goan Warriors, saw his shot get deflected over the cross-bar. Few moments from then Virgilio's long range effort just missed the target by a whisker.
Crossing over, Goan Warriors came with renewed ideas and their players used the flanks to exploit the rival's weak defence.
Dawin's cross from left was cleared by Parra's Savio Vaz. Gaurish Bugde's powerful strike from outside the 18-yard box was denied from going in by Parra's keeper Aaron.
In the 43rd minute, Goan Warriors awarded the spot-kick and was cooly converted by Gaurish after Ashish's resultant spot-kick was fisted away by the rival goalkeeper.
Warriors doubled their lead in 44th minute through Vishnu, who dribbled past Parra's goalkeeper.
