Cuncolim Union drubbed hosts SCC Cavelossim 4-0 to enter the semifinals of Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup inter village football tournament organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim.
Cavelossim played well in the first half with Raju Cardozo and Aswil Afonso combining well, but erratic shooting denied them anything concrete. Cuncolim also had a try in the 6th minute but Dilon Carvalho's shot was punched to safety by Cavelossim keeper Aaren Fernandes. Against the run of play, Cuncolim took the lead when Melvin Fernandes scored from an assist by Dilon before half time.
Crossing over, Cuncolim changed their strategy in using their flanks to outrun Cavelossim defenders and in the 40th minute had a golden opportunity to go 2-0 up when referee Mario Rebello awarded a penalty after Aston Vaz handled the ball in the box. However, Trijoy Dias blasted his kick over the bar.
However, Cuncolim were not to be denied again as Daulat Desai scored in quick succession in the 50th, 55th, and 60th minutes to complete his second hat-trick of the tournament to take Cuncolim into the semifinals, where they will meet the winners of the match between Betalbatim SC and Rossman Cruz Nagoa.
