The Sports Authority of Goa will assess the condition of artificial turf outside Nehru Stadium, Fatorda and decide on floating a tender for redeveloping it after complaints of unsuitable playing conditions at the venue.
The ground is a popular facility used by footballers of all ages but has worn out after many years of use.
“We will check the damage and prepare an estimate for taking up the work. We will call for tenders and the work will start soon,” Mahesh Rivankar, the Fatorda Stadium Manager, said. Meanwhile, Arnaldo D’Costa, vice-chairman of GFA women’s committee, along with committee member Oswaldo D’Costa inspected the ground and will submit a report to GFA president Churchill Alemao. Sources informed that the duo expressed their displeasure over the ground conditions.
It is learnt that the SAG artificial turf ground will be dropped as the venue for GFA Women’s League and the matches will be shifted to Chowgule College turf ground in Margao. The Fatorda facility was named as one of the three venues for the tournament which begins on October 6. Duler Stadium in Mapusa and Navelim Ground are the other venues for the tournament which kicks off the Goan domestic season.
