The 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas will be observed on the July 26 at 10 am at Azad Maidan by All Goa Ex Servicemen Association along with Ex NCC Cadets Association at Azad Maidan, Panaji. The day is dedicated to the martyred soldiers of the Kargil war. The NCC cadets of colleges in Panaji, The Security Jawans of GHRDC and scouts and guides from Our Lady Of Rosary High School, Donapaula along with prominent citizens, will attend the solemn function and pay their respects to the brave war heroes.
Lt Col Austin Collaco (Retd) of the Bihar Regiment who has served in the war zone during Kargil war will speak on kargil and narrate his personal experiences. On May 2, 1999, Pakistan started this war when it had infiltrated into the high altitudes in the rocky mountainous region of Kargil with around 5,000 soldiers and captured it. When the Indian Government got the information about it, ‘Operation Vijay’ was launched by the Indian army to throw back the intruders who had treacherously occupied Indian Territory. Ramdas Mahale of the All Goa Ex Servicemen Association and John Aguiar of Ex NCC Cadets Association has appealed to the citizens to attend in large numbers.
