MARGAO: Verna Veterans blanked Bidesh Veterans 2-0 to move to the quarter-finals of 4th all Goa veterans football tournament, organised by Batora United Club, at DYSA ground, Curtorim, on Monday.
Verna missed the first chance to score in the seventh minute through Vincent Colaco while on other hand Bidesh Veterans missed the opportunity to take lead in 24th minutes through Kasinath Chari and taking the advantage Verna's Remedios Barreto's right footer from the box entered the Bidesh Veterans' net in 26th minute of the game to make it 1-0 lead before half time.
In the second half, Bidesh Veterans tried to come back with combination of Hilario, Menino and Umesh but the Verna defence of Caitano, Dominic and Sandip stood firm to deny the equaliser. Seby Vaz of Verna Veterans doubled the lead 2-0 to take Verna into the quarter-finals.
