While appreciating the MMC action, Savio Coutinho, however, said the citizens of Margao only hope that the same encroachments don’t come back and the foot paths and passages remain clear for the pedestrians.
The SCM has further highlighted the huge expenses incurred towards such drives by way of overtime wages paid to the MMC staff. The 10-day encroachment drive is likely to cost the Council (excluding the use of vehicles) a whopping Rs 1.5 lakh only towards the overtime wages payable to the staff and officials involved in the drive. “In view of this type of undue expenditure, it is essential for the Council to ensure that the designated staff acts upon encroachments time to time,” he said.
