A stretch of the NH4A highway between Khanapur and Anmod has badly deteriorated and has posed a danger to traffic along the route.
Villagers in the locality have appealed to authorities in Goa to intervene and get the roadwork completed.
According to locals, over 20 kms of a 54-km stretch of road between Khanapur and Anmod has turned into a dirt track and filled with huge stretches of potholes.
While heavy vehicles frequently get stuck on the road, it is impossible for light vehicles to commute on this road as the dilapidated condition of the highway has made driving on this road almost impossible.
Villagers from Ramnagar, Tinaighat, Anmod and other villages are among the worst affected and complain that authorities had ignored even minor repairs to make this road motorable for traffic.
“Accidents are rampant along this route and the Goa government should intervene and end the misery of motorists and commuters,” said Nelson Lima from Tinaighat.
Added a resident from Ramnagar: “There is a high court stay on the work and the contractor is not taking up the work. We also contacted the Tehshildar at Joida to take up the matter with higher authorities and we had also staged protests. However, nothing seems to work.”
“Like us, commuters from Goa and Karnataka are also facing tough times and hence, we urge Goan authorities to coordinate with Karnataka and get the work on this road completed at the earliest.”
