Shilpa Singh, the political science assistant professor at VM Salgaocar College of Law has filed her explanatory response to the student grievances panel over oblique allegations hurled against her by RSS-affiliate student body ABVP.
Singh is believed to have questioned the organisation’s locus-standi to adjudicate on teaching styles inside classrooms.
When contacted, however, Singh declined to reveal the contents of her reply but admitted she feared for her physical safety.
She also said, several civil society groups both from Goa and other parts of the country have got in touch with her out of solidarity and cautioned her of the militant character of the ABVP.
The student body of the right-wing RSS ABVP picked out Singh and served the college a 24-hour ultimatum to sack her.
It also threatened an “aggressive agitation” if their demand is not met for what they alleged was the professor’s use of ‘anti-religious’ sentiments in her online lecture.
The College wrote back to the organisation that it cannot accept its demand to terminate Singh but also referred the plaint to be dealt by the Student Grievances Committee which sought an explanation from her.
Singh also found solid support from political science professors of Colleges across Goa who have questioned a politically affiliated student body’s locus-standi to dictate terms on conduct of academic proceedings inside classrooms.
