Commuters believe that constructing underpasses or grade separators at the key junctions on the Nuvem stretch would not only eliminate signal delays but also restore the bypass's original purpose of ensuring uninterrupted movement of highway traffic.
The government, however, needs to intervene and propose the works at least from the road safety point of view. “When Chief Minister Pramod Sawant boasts of central funding to boost highway infrastructure running into thousands of crores, the government should take up the work of grade separators on the Nuvem bypass stretch”, remarked a motorist.
A senior PWD, NH official pointed out that the department has taken cognisance of the traffic ground reality at Nuvem. “We have taken cognisance of the ground reality. The PWD will take up works to bring the changes after receiving centre’s nod and funds”, the official added.
