VASCO
A day after some ‘activists’ had tried to accuse Vasco police of targeting Goan vendors at Saptah by preventing them from selling goods, Vasco police on Monday claimed that the two persons had caused public nuisance and also booked them for giving false information to police.
Refuting accusations that the police had targeted the two persons, Vasco Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo on Monday said that Vasco police had acted as per law and had cleared encroachments along the roads to avoid inconvenience to people.
The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Monday also backed the police action and appreciated Vasco police for detaining people who were trying to block the road on pretext of claiming to be Goans.
“They had refused to move away despite requests by municipal staff and IRB police staff. A police team from the outpost near Damodar Temple then requested them to shift by the roadside, but the two persons had remained adamant and created a scene claiming that Goans were being targeted,” said PI Raposo.
“They were aggressive in their behaviour and were taken to the Vasco Police Station, where they were detained under Section 151 CrPC. CCTV footage came very handy in this connection.” “They were subsequently released on bail, but on Monday morning it was revealed that the duo had provided false information to Vasco police and another offence was registered against them. Suraj Naik of Durbhat had given his name as Vishal Naik, while Vishwesh Naik of Agassaim had given his name as Vishwas Naik,” said PI Raposo.
Vasco police has registered another offence under Sec 177 IPC for providing false information to police. Vasco police also plans to file a chapter case proceedings before Dy Collector for action under Sec 107 of CrPC.
“Goa Police is committed to effective policing and is geared to tackle any untoward eventuality. We are not targeting anyone but only acting as per law,” insisted PI Raposo.
