3 booked after worker falls to death from building in Canacona

Two brothers were among three persons booked in connection with the death of a man from the third floor of a building under construction at Agonda on Monday night.

Canacona police booked the two building owners, Barsat Naik Gaunkar and Badal Naik Gaunkar, and the contractor, Pramod Raikar, on charges of destruction of evidence, fabricating false information, intentional omission to give information regarding the offence, providing false information to the investigation officer and issuing threats to eye-witnesses not to disclose the place of offence.

It may be recalled that a person while returning from work saw a man, Chandra Prakash Jaunpur of UP fallen and screaming in pain by the roadside at Desaiwada, Agonda.

The person then contacted Barsat Naik Gaonkar, and both took the injured person to the Canacona CHC, but he died while undergoing treatment.

During investigation, police became suspicious regarding the incident and later found out that the deceased had been one of the workers engaged at a construction site of the builders, Barsat and Badal Naik Gaunkar.

Police found out that Jaunpur had accidentally fallen off the third floor of the building under construction and had sustained grievous injuries, but had been allegedly misled by the two persons who shifted the injured to the CHC.   

Canacona police also found out that the contractor and the two building owners allegedly did not provide any safety equipment and did not take any precautionary measures for the deceased and other labours at the construction site.

Police said three accused are alleged to have destroyed evidence and fabricated false information, intentionally omitting to give information regarding the offence which they were legally bound to inform, providing false information to investigation officer in respect of offence committed and threatening to worker/eye witnesses not to disclosed the exact place of offence.

The three accused have been booked u/s 106 (1), 238, 239, 240, 351 (2) r/w 3 (5) of BNS and further investigation is carried out by PSI Vishal Velip of Canacona Police Station under the direct supervison of PI Pravin Gawas.
