Days after the Colvale Jail came under scanner over brutal violence between notorious criminals Vijay Karborkar and Tarzan Parsekar, around six jail inmates have accused jail officials of bullying them.
A writ petition filed by Sameer Shaikh and five others before the High Court of Bombay at Goa alleges that some of the jail officials have been bullying and harassing them constantly, particularly after two groups led by Karbotkar and Parsekar indulged in a fight within the jail premises last month.
Considering the severity of the matter, the Court has slated the petition for hearing on Wednesday with directions to the jail authorities to allow the petitioners to meet their advocates.
It is also learnt that some inmates have alleged they were thrashed by some officials in the jail and were deliberately not produced before the trial courts for hearings in respective cases charge sheeted against them.
The Jail witnessed a tense moment on May 30 when Karbotkar allegedly attacked Parsekar in the in-house dispensary, which instigated a fight between the two factions. The accused wielded steel mugs at each other. The violence was to an extent that no jail official could bring it under immediate control and the doctor was trapped amidst the fight in the dispensary for almost half an hour.
