The Goa Police on Saturday reshuffled eight police inspectors; order which incidentally comes after the High Court of Bombay at Goa sternly criticised the government and police’s failure to control sand mining.

In the bargain to probably damage control its share of lapse, the department’s order witnesses transfers of some other PIs either within or less than a year from their current posting.

It was this Wednesday that the High Court pulled up the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police for repeatedly violating its own orders, leading to the resumption of illegal sand mining.

The Court further directed them to submit a detailed action plan by December 12 comprising specific names and details of police personnel, deputy collectors, and nodal officers responsible for the talukas of Bicholim, Ponda, Tiswadi, and Pernem.

Ahead of this hearing, the Office of the DGP on Saturday executed the transfer and posting order of eight PIs, of whom 3-4 are from jurisdictions where illegal sand mining is reported. Rahul Naik of Bicholim Police Station has been relocated to Valpoi, swapping posting with Dinesh Gadekar while Satish Gawade at Mardol PS is shunted to the Anti-Corruption Branch/Vigilance and Satish Padwalkar from Old Goa PS is transferred to Cyber Crime PS.

Similarly, Mopa, where a portion is purportedly occupied for illegal sand mining, has seen the transfer of Ninad Deulkar to Crime Branch and he replaces Narayan Chimulkar, who will take over Mopa PS.

Interestingly, the transfer of Mardol PI, who had replaced Mohan Gaude – embroiled in the alleged botched investigation of Banastarim fatal accident, comes less than three months after his posting whereas PI Chimulkar has completed merely one year in CB.

Other PIs include Yogesh Sawant and Raghoba Kamat from CM Security to Old Goa PS and Mardol PS respectively.
