Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday made a pitch for adoption of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in all States across the country after Goa and now Uttarakhand have done it so women can get equal rights in personal and property matters.
Sawant who was speaking at the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhinandan event in his home constituency of Sanquelim, said it will be crucial for women’s rights even as he underscored the importance of registration of marriages for UCC to be effective.
He said, Goa is a leader in the country for implementation of the UCC and now Uttarakhand has followed suit, while addressing a large gathering of women.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised these events at multiple venues across the State which were addressed virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
