Bus, 2-wheeler gutted in fire at Tivim, no casualties

About 22 staff of a private company and a two-wheeler rider had a lucky escape, after the mini bus and a scooter were gutted in a fire at Madel-Tivim on Wednesday evening.
According to Mapusa fire department, a private mini bus (GA-04-T-0144) was proceeding with about 22 staff of a company from Mapusa towards Bicholim. Baburao Salkar, who was also proceeding on his two-wheeler (GA-04-B-6391) towards Bicholim noticed smoke from under the bus and stopped the bus after parking his two-wheeler 15 mtrs away from the bus.
The fire personnel said the bus driver immediately vacated the staff from the bus and tried to douse the fire. Within minutes, the engine of the bus went up in flames and then the bus moved forward and crushed the two-wheeler, which was also gutted in the fire.
Mapusa fire fighters rushed to the site to douse the fire, but both the vehicles were completely burnt.
Mapusa Police also rushed to the site and stopped traffic proceeding towards Bicholim to assist the fire fighters in their fire-fighting operations.
