Camurlim village is a quiet fishing village surrounded by hills on the suburbs of Mapusa but the foot soldiers of Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) are a worried lot as the hills of the village are under an attack from the builder’s lobby.
RGP chief Manoj Parab on Monday alleged that the Delhi lobby has set its eyes on the hills of the village and cautioned the locals to remain alert against the rampage of the outstation builder’s lobby.
“Camurlim is under attack from Delhi’s builder lobby. They have purchased most of the hills in the village which they are planning to convert to put up constructions. There is one project coming up on 5 lakh sq mtrs area. It’s on a hill which has a very steep slope. Below the hill is the whole village. The local panchayat has issued permission and construction has also started. There is not even a 3-metre road there,” Parab said.
“People of the village should remain alert. We will back the villagers. They do not have to file complaints. They have to only inform us. We will file complaints and battle it out legally and politically,” the RGP chief assured the locals.
The RGP supremo was addressing the media after meeting and taking stock of the complaints filed before the office of the Deputy Collector in Mapusa.
Continuing, Parab said a lot of mega projects and buildings were coming up in villages which destroy the eco-system like the hills and fields besides putting pressure on the basic infrastructure like water, road and power.
He said water was getting diverted to the mega projects and locals had to suffer as they failed to get proper supply of drinking water.
He slammed the local panchayats for pretending to be helpless and blaming the Town and Country Planning department for issuing permissions when the panchayats have enough powers to stop the constructions from coming up.
According to the RGP chief, the High Court order states that no construction permission can be issued if there is no six-metre road access.
