Rs 1.13 crore collected for traffic rules violations in Ponda

The Ponda Traffic Police has penalised 17,422 motorists for various traffic violations in Ponda taluka and has collected Rs 1,13,02, 000 between January and April.

In addition, the Ponda Traffic Police has sent 1,143 driving licences for suspension to authorities from January 1 to May 15.

During the past four months, various traffic offences were booked and they included overspeeding (1,058), drinking and driving (49), speaking on mobile phone while driving (30), riding without helmets/seat belts (1,057), no registration number plate (422), stylish number plate (2,043), driving without licence (19), dangerous parking (2,572) and tinted filming (1737).

Ponda Traffic Police In-Charge Vijay Kavlekar has appealed to parents to ensure that their children are allowed to drive vehicles only after obtaining a driving license.

“Youth drive very fast, do stunts and cause accidents, putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk. Police is taking serious action against those who do stunts.
