VASCO
Concerned citizens of Vasco on Saturday evening staged a peaceful candle light vigil outside the MMC administrative building in Vasco to protest against rapes on minor victims in different parts of the country.
Speaking to reporters, activist Vikram Sarmalkar said the rally was a non-political rally. It was aimed at condemning the violence and to request the government to make stringent laws to ensure maximum punishment for rapists.
Another social worker, Niyazi Shaikh, said the rally was organized by the group Concerned Citizens of Vasco.
“There were no shouting of slogans or speeches against any person or party. We had requested people to attend in large numbers and this was for all like-minded people who agree and think a peaceful march could be a start to a positive future,” said Shaikh.
