Goa is all set to host the Nobel Prize Series India 2018 -- a series of talks and interactions of Nobel laureates with the public, especially students.
The event aims to bring together Nobel Laureates and other experts in the field of science which will help to inculcate a sense of scientific temperament and stimulate creative thinking among students. It also aims at promoting science education.
On Wednesday, a keynote address by Padmashree Prof K Vijay Raghavan, Secretary of Department of Biotechnology, India, on ‘Science and Education in Transforming India' set the wheels in motion for the upcoming Nobel Prize Series
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will inaugurate the event on February 1 at 3.30 pm at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hall, Kala Academy, Campal. Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan and Minister for State for Science and Technology Y S Chowdhary will also attend the function.
The Nobel Prize Series India 20 l 8-Goa is jointly organised by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and State Department of Science and Technology in collaboration with Nobel Media AB, Sweden, from February 1 to 3.
The event also includes Nobel exhibition to be flown in from Sweden, including Indian exhibition showcasing the exemplary scientific work done by Indian scientists.
The exhibition will remain open for public from February 1 to 26, 2018. Six Nobel laureates are expected to be present for this event which combines exhibition, dialogue, roundtables and their interactions with students and teachers.
Prof. K Vijay Raghavan said the notion that India lacks good scientists was wrong. Our country has a great scientific history, he added.
