The three accused, who were arrested in Goa for shooting at a Delhi policeman, were on Thursday found to be involved in ATM skimming in the State.
Based on a complaint that a skimmer was fixed at the Yes Bank ATM machine at Porbowado, Calangute, police examined the CCTV footage and found that they were the same accused who were arrested on Thursday in an attempt to murder case in Delhi.
Calangute Police attached the skimmer device fixed to the ATM card reader and got the custody of the accused for further interrogation in the ATM skimming.
During the custodial interrogation, the accused “ Vipin Sunil Dagar (24), Praveen Surjay Dagar (23) and Ajay Kimar Ahlawat (22) “ confessed to tampering with the ATM machine.
Acting swiftly, police recovered and attached a car (HR-14-N-6333) used in the crime and successfully recovered IP cameras, two batteries and circuits from the car, which were used for setting the  skimmer device.
The accused also confessed of carrying out a similar act in Axis ATM machine in Panaji. Calangute Police have intimated their Panaji counterparts about the incident.
An offence has been registered under Sections 420, 511 R/w 34 of the IPC.
“Similar offences have been registered against the accused in Delhi Cantt police station, where the accused can be seen in CCTV footage,” PI Jivba Dalvi said.
The criminals involved in such crimes fix a bogus card reader (skimmer device) on top of the real reader in the ATM.
“The skimmer device secretly swipes credit and debit cards information when the customers slip their cards into the machines to pull out the money. The skimmer device stores card data using an integrated magnetic stripe reader and also has a built in hidden camera designed to record the PIN number,” Dalvi informed.
Delhi Police Sub Inspector, Jasbir Singh, who had come to take custody of the accused is camping at the Calangute Police Station.
Calangute Police is conducting further investigation.
