MAPUSA
Commuters using the busy NH-66 stretch through Porvorim will have to brace for traffic diversions for over three weeks, with the Public Works Department (National Highways) announcing a temporary closure of a section of the highway from midnight on July 17 to August 10 to facilitate drainage works for the Porvorim elevated corridor project.
The diversion, sought by project contractor M/s RRSM Infra Pvt Ltd, will be enforced on the stretch between P55 (Mr DIY showroom) and O’Coqueiro junction.
The PWD said the measure is essential to enable the uninterrupted execution of drainage works during the final phase of the elevated corridor project while ensuring the safety of road users.
As per the traffic plan, vehicles travelling from Mapusa towards Panaji on the left-hand carriageway of NH-66 will continue to have unrestricted access.
However, traffic from Sangolda, Calangute and Baga heading towards Panaji will be diverted from Copper Leaf junction on Chogm Road through the bypass road connecting to NH-66 near Khapreshwar Temple.
Vehicles travelling from Panaji towards Mapusa will be diverted at P55 (O’Coqueiro junction) via the bypass road near Sapna Habitat before rejoining Chogm Road.
Traffic bound for Sangolda, Calangute and Baga will also be diverted onto Chogm Road at O’Coqueiro
junction.
The contractor has been directed to deploy traffic marshals round the clock, erect prominent diversion and no-parking signboards, and implement all road safety measures in accordance with IRC and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines throughout the diversion period.
