Dry days in State during polling, counting days

The State government has declared dry days on May 5-7 and June 4 in view of the polling and the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.

In separate orders issued on Tuesday, the government also banned transportation of liquor without a permit during this period.

“...all licensed premises “for the sale of liquor” to be closed in the State of Goa from 6 pm of May 5, 2024, till midnight of May 7, 2024, and on June 4, 2024, on account of polling and counting of votes respectively for the General Elections to Lok Sabha- 2024,” reads the order.

However, the licensed premises having a license for ‘Bar and Restaurant’ may be allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only, and the Bar counter will have to be closed. “No liquor will be allowed to be served on these mentioned days. The owners of the licensed premises having ‘Bar and Restaurant’ shall also display a board in the premises stating that no liquor will be served and that only the restaurant is open for serving food,” it further said.

The State government also banned transportation of liquor without permits issued during this period.

“Three quart bottles of Indian made foreign liquor or foreign liquor other than beer and six bottles of beer of 650ml for any person including his family and three quart bottles of country liquor for any person including his family will be the maximum quantity of liquor which can be possessed by any person in the State of Goa,” it said.
