Incidents of dry grass catching fire were reported at two different locations in Sattari taluka.
The first incident occurred near the crematorium at Velus-Sattari in the afternoon. Upon receiving the alert, a team from the Valpoi Fire Station rushed to the spot under the leadership of Station Officer Dyaneshwar Gawas and extinguished the fire. The incident resulted in an estimated loss of Rs 20,000, while property worth an equal amount was saved.
The second incident took place near the crematorium at Ravan-Sattari in the afternoon. A team led by Senior Fire Fighter Dattaram R Dessai reached the site and carried out firefighting operations. The fire was fully extinguished by 4.05 pm. No financial loss was reported in this incident.
In view of the rising number of such incidents during the summer season, fire officials have appealed to citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
