Madgavkars woke up on Saturday to hear the shocking news of a sensational murder of an unknown person, whose nude body with cut injuries and intestines bulging out, was found in a Bolero pickup parked near the Raviraj hotel located below the Margao flyover at Sirvodem.
Till noon, the Goa police appeared clueless as the deceased had no connection with the Maharashtra-registered vehicle. The driver of the vehicle told the police he had come from Mumbai to deliver goods in Margao. That the body of the accused was in a nude state only made the investigating agency to probe the murder in various angles.
CCTV footage obtained by the police from a jewellery and another shop only showed the deceased emerging on the road, sitting on the road before entering the parked Maharashtra-registered vehicle at around 5.30 am on Saturday.
By 2 pm, the Goa police achieved a breakthrough after CCTV footage of an establishment in the Calconda area, just meters away from the footbridge, showed the deceased moving on the road with the injured abdomen.
Armed with the vital clue, the Goa police team swung into action and arrested accused Prashant Barna, aged 26, a native of Simdega, Jharkhand, for alleging murdering Amit Kirketti aged between 35-40, also a native of Simdega, Jharkhand.
District police Chief, SP Abhishek Dhania, IPS informed that no sooner the police received the information on the murder, the team started investigations by recording the statement of the Bolero driver.
He said during the course of investigation technical surveillance was mounted as well as local intelligence was deployed. Vital clues were collected on the basis of CCTV footages in Khareband area located the place of incident and established the identity of the deceased to be of one Amit Kirketti aged between 35-40 and a native of Jharkhand.
The investigation revealed that there was a brawl between the accused namely Prashant and the victim namely Amit Kirketti after consuming liquor before the accused person assaulted the deceased with a sharp weapon.
Accused person is taken into custody and is being interrogated further.
The SP had constituted multiple teams consisting of PI Sachin Narvekar of Margao Town Police Station, PI Girendra Naik of Fatorda PS, PI Melson Colaso of Colva PS, PI Tukaram Chavan of Cuncolim PS, PI Mohan Gaude of Maina Curtorim PS along with their Sub Inspectors and LIB staff under the supervision of SDPO Margao Shivendu Bhushan IPS, Sunny Gupta Probationer IPS (UT) and SDPO Ponda C L Patil.
