Organised by the Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (DITE&C), the workshop focuses on strengthening public service delivery through scalable language AI while promoting last-mile digital inclusion by enabling voice-based access to government services in regional languages.
In an official statement, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said the State has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BHASHINI under the Goa AI Mission to develop a conversational Konkani Large Language Model (LLM), enabling citizens to interact with digital platforms in their mother tongue.
"Through this MoU, government departments will have access to AI-powered translation tools. For example, the Printing and Stationery Department, which prepares the official Konkani Gazette, currently uploads departmental notifications in English. Our aim is to create a system where farmers and other citizens can receive government information directly in Konkani," Khaunte said.
Khaunte stated that the Goa AI Mission is building an ecosystem around artificial intelligence through skilling, startups, innovation and venture capital, while ensuring Konkani remains at the centre of the State's digital transformation.
The workshop also focused on training government officials to adopt AI-enabled language tools. Khaunte highlighted that the initiative complements programmes such as Mahila Digital Sashaktikaran, which aims to improve digital literacy among women, empower self-help groups and help rural communities access online marketplaces and government services through technology.
