In a promising development, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira has announced the government’s in-principle approval for the long-awaited redevelopment of the market complex in Aldona, which has been deteriorating for over a decade.
Ferreira expressed his gratitude towards the State government for swiftly approving the initiative, marking the crucial first step towards the rejuvenation of the dilapidated market.
He emphasised the urgency of the situation, highlighting the risks posed to visitors due to the market’s precarious condition.
“The State government has given in principle approval for redevelopment of the Aldona Market, which as you know is on the verge of collapse. People are still using it and I had spoken to the market vendors and also to the members of Church Fabrica. Everybody is cooperating. We will take every stakeholder into consideration and make sure that we will get this done fast,” Ferreira said.
The Goan had recently highlighted the pitiable condition of the Aldona market and the risks people visiting the market take.
Ferreira said the decision was facilitated by Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and his committee, who promptly endorsed the request of the local panchayat. Ferreira commended their efficiency in addressing an issue that had lingered unresolved for more than ten years.
With the initial hurdle cleared, Ferreira outlined the next steps, which involve detailed planning encompassing aspects such as the allocation of shops, rehabilitation measures, and rental agreements.
He assured stakeholders that their concerns would be duly considered throughout the process.
Reflecting on his tenure as MLA, Ferreira proudly announced securing over Rs 100 crore worth of developmental projects for the constituency.
Among these projects are crucial infrastructural improvements such as underground cabling worth Rs 94 crore and the approval of tenders for various other long-pending ventures, including the Attafondem-Calizor bundh and the Corjuem Podval khazan.
