There could be a bonanza in store for hundreds of employees of Goa government-owned Corporations. The State government is reportedly inclined to make benefits of the VII Pay Commission’s recommendations applicable to them if these institutions can stomach the financial implications.
Days after the Goa Government Employees Association president, John Nazareth, presented the demand for implementing the Pay Commission scales for the employees of State-owned corporations to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the latter conferred with key bureaucrats on the issue.
Parrikar advised the bureaucrats to pursue the issue with the respective corporations and instruct them to prepare the proposals and compute the financial implications. As most of these institutions foot the salary bill from their own resources, the government concurrence for the proposals, is only a formality but a necessary one, to pave the way for enhanced salaries for their staff.
However, there are a few who get annual salary grants from the State government and the proposals for making their staff eligible for the VII Pay Commission’s scales will require the government to make financial provisions.
Government sources said around 21 such institutions have already furnished their plans for revision of staff salaries according to the recommendations of the VII Pay Commission.
There are some 55 such institutions whose staff are categorised as semi-government employees. Most of them function under the administrative control of one or the other State government departments.
Plans to revise staff salaries have already been received by the government from Goa State Urban Development Agency, Sports Authority of Goa, Goa Energy Development Agency, Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Goa Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Sewerage & Infrastructure Development Corporation, District Rural Development Agency among others.
