CANACONA
Visits to all six panchayats and one municipal council have been part of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's packed itinerary during his marathon 12-hour tour of Canacona on Saturday, the first after forming the government nine months ago.
Briefing media persons in Canacona, local BJP leaders have claimed that the chief minister's visit will be clearly aimed at boosting the party's image in Canacona.
Parrikar is scheduled to open a BJP office at Chaudi to facilitate beneficiaries of different BJP government schemes and other matters.
Detailing the chief minister's itinerary to the media, BJP South District President Sarvanand Bhagat said Parrikar would be welcomed at Gulem by 9.30 am, will first attend an interactive program at
Dhavalkhazan-Agonda organized the BJP Yuva Morcha.
"He will then proceed to Shri Mallikarjun Temple and will interact with villagers at Asali, Chapoli, Nuem, and hold a brief meet with Karyakartas at Shristhal panchayat Hall."
"Thereafter, he will meet Karyakartas at Cotigao panchayat hall and hold interactions with people at Gaondongrim, before proveeding to lunch at a resident's house, which will also be attended by 250-300 others," said Bhagat.
The chief minister is then scheduled to attend an official bird festival at Cotigao forests, before proceeding to Poinguinim to interact with people at Potkem grounds, Poinguinim.
"He will then visit Loliem-Polem panchayat area and will interact with people at Iddar-Loliem. At about 5.30, the chief minister will meet all elected representatives ZPs, panchas, sarpanchas and councillors at the Municipal Hall. All senior government officers will be present with the chief minister," Bhagat said. During his tour, the chief minister is also scheduled to visit the Talpona Jetty, Betal Temple, Municipality and will inaugurate the BJP office at Chaudi.
Asked if Canacona's Congress MLA Isidore Fernandes would be present with the chief minister during
his Canacona tour, Bhagat replied: "The Canacona MLA will be present at a meet of elected representatives in the municipal hall." Canacona BJP Block President Mahesh Naik informed all these interactions and meetings in six panchcyats and municipality will be held under the BJPs banner.
"The chief minister will be requested to address issues pertaining to CRZ, shacks, jetty, turtle nesting (Galgibaga), ongoing works at the new twin bridges, Forests Act, Poinguinim grounds and the water issue faced by Canconkars. He has assured to address maximum issues during the tour," said Naik.
BJP State Vice President Prakash Velip said the chief minister's presence will help address over 1,000 cases pertaining to forest dwellers from six talukas, including Canacona and Quepem, on priority.
Others present at the briefing were BJP Yuva Morcha President Pankaj Naik Gaunkar, Shristhal Sarpanch Devendra Naik and Vithoba Velip.
