The Vasco branch of the Legal Metrology Department headed by Inspector Liladhar Kumbharjuvekar, conducted several surprise raids on establishments in Mangor Hill, Dabolim Junction and Bogmalo area on Tuesday.
Several outlets and establishment were caught by surprise with the sudden visit from the Legal Metrology Department officials.
The Legal Metrology Department also detained weighing counter scales, electronic weighing scales and pegs and measures from the raids conducted for not being stamped on time.
The raid was conducted by Kumbharjuvekar along with staff, Ramdas Gaude, Pascoal Vaz and Ratnakar Phaldesai, under the supervision of Controller Kiran Kosambe and Asst. Controller Arun Panchawadkar.
Speaking to the media, Kumbharjuvekar informed that six cases were booked in raids conducted across different locations. "The Legal Metrology Vasco office conducted raid in the areas of Mangor Hill, Dabolim and Bogmalo. A total of 14 electronics weighing instruments and counter scale machines were seized," said Kumbharjuvekar.
"We booked six cases and the items were seized from chicken shop centres (2), general stores (2), a horticulture shop and one bar and restaurant. The cases have been booked under Legal Metrology Act 2009 & Goa Legal Metrology Rules 2011," added Kumbharjuvekar.
