Even as Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) informed the High Court that it has withdrawn the show-cause notice issued to M/s Kargwal Construction Pvt Ltd (KCPL), opposition was brewing with leaders threatening to hit the streets if attempts were made to revive the Nauxim marina project.
Speaking exclusively to The Goan, St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar who is one of the petitioners in the case along with Manoj Parab and others, informed that the issue would be fought legally with them opposing MPA’s move to withdraw show-cause notice.
“We have been given two week's time to reply and we will vehemently oppose MPA’s move,” the MLA informed.
Dabolim Congress leader Captain Viriato Fernandes sought to know who had pressurised the MPA to withdraw the show-cause notice while AAP leader Ramrao Wagh warned the powers that be not to play with the sentiments of the people and threatened to revive the agitation against the project.
When further questioned what would be the future course of action if the HC ruling doesn’t go in their favour, Borkar said that he would hit the streets against the project.
“As an elected representative, I will hit the streets in protest against any moves to revive the Nauxim marina project,” Borkar informed.
He further said that MPA’s move to withdraw the show-cause notice smacks of something sinister.
“As of now, there is no clarity on the real reasons behind the withdrawal of the show-cause notice,” Borkar pointed out, while adding that he smells something fishy in the matter.
Further, Borkar outlined that the bay from Dona Paula to Agassaim is rich in flora and fauna, and this will get destroyed if the marina is allowed to come up.
“The marina project would prove to be an ecological disaster and I am not going to allow that to happen at any cost. Further, the fisherfolks from Dona Paula, Odxel, Cacra, Nauxim, Bambolim, Siridao, Agassaim and other places are dependent on this bay for their livelihood,” the MLA informed while further pointing out why there is opposition to the project in this belt.
