In a major initiative to safeguard students' academic future, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI)-Goa submitted a memorandum to the Registrar of Goa University seeking the introduction of supplementary examinations for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students with backlog papers through an amendment to the existing University Ordinance.
The delegation pointed out that while first and second-year students benefit from Allowed to Keep Terms (ATKT) and supplementary examinations, no such provision exists for final-year students. Consequently, those who fail even a single paper must wait an entire academic year to reappear, delaying graduation and affecting their careers.
NSUI-Goa said the current system results in the loss of an academic year, delays in obtaining degree certificates, missed employment and higher education opportunities, financial burden on families, and increased stress.
The organisation urged the University to amend its regulations, conduct supplementary examinations soon after final semester results, and issue provisional and degree certificates promptly.
Registrar informed the delegation that the University is examining the proposal and will place it before the competent authority. NSUI-Goa welcomed the assurance and expressed hope for a student-friendly reform benefiting thousands across Goa.
