CANACONA

Responding to requests, the Canacona police has begun patrolling the Bamonbudo waterfall in Gaondongrim on all days of the week, on account of law and order problems by scores of visitors visiting the waterfall.

Canacona PI Chandrakant Gawas said strict police vigilance and surveillance would be kept around the waterfall.

“We advise visitors to follow traffic directions to avoid arguments or clashes over parking of vehicles. Also, visitors are advised to strictly refrain from eve-teasing or interfering with locals, especially with women and girls, and to avoid making fun of people, particularly elderly residents.”

“Visitors have been advised not to throw waste and plastic, liquor bottles inside the waterfall or around it. The police will take prompt action against any trouble makers in the area,” warned PI Gawas.

Visitors have been visiting the Bamanbudo waterfall in Gaondongrim, but the growing presence of visitors has been of concern to the locals and they had demanded police patrolling throughout the week to maintain law and order in the area.

“While people from far and wide visit our village to enjoy the beauty of this waterfall, it is becoming a nightmare for our people here, as our women and girls who use the route to their workplaces, fields, etc., are often subjected to eve-teasing and harassment,” remarked a local.

Previously, policemen were deputed only on weekends due to incidents of eve-teasing of local women, dumping of used bottles and other garbage in the open, fights among visitors during parking space crunch and mishaps along the narrow road.

The Bamanbudo waterfall, which attracts people even from Karnataka, is located at a distance of 15 kms from the Bhatpal Forest Gate towards Neturlim. The waterfall surrounded by the picturesque hills is right by the side of the road in Tudal area, after one crosses the main Gaondongrim village.
