The body of the second victim was recovered from the Mainapi waterfall in Neturlim village on Monday morning.
The police along with a team from the forest department retrieved the body of Shivdatt Naik (24) years, a civil engineer by profession.
Sources informed that Shivdatt Naik hailed from Hodar-Curchorem but his parents had shifted to Vasco on account of the employment of Shivdatt’s father and his studies.
Shivdatt was working for a private firm in Vasco and had gone for a picnic at Mainapi waterfall with some of his friends.
Sources said Shivdatt reportedly did not go for a swim but but is alleged to have had a fall after he slipped on one of the stones.
The shoes and jeans he was wearing were intact when his body was retrieved. Sources also informed that he had a sustained head injury which might have been caused when Shivdatt slipped and fell into the waters of Mainapi waterfall.
Incidentally, Shivdatt was the sole earning member in the family. His mother is ill and father had died in an accident about 15 years ago.
The final rites of late Shivdatt Naik were performed at his native place in Hodar-Curchorem on Monday evening attended by a large number of people, including relatives and friends.
Meanwhile, Netravali Sarpanch Bunda Varak along with other panchayat members have demanded a ban on the entry of visitors to the waterfalls in Netravali village with immediate effect, till the time the forest department and police work on security measures at the waterfalls in the village.
