VALPOI
Unhappy about the potholes and bad roads in Valpoi town, members of Sattari Jagruti Yuva Manch and some residents protested by planting flowers in the potholes on Monday. Vishwesh Prabhu, who led the protest, informed reporters that similar “plantation drives” would be conducted in other parts of Sattari taluka where roads are in a bad state.
Speaking to The Goan, Prabhu complained that the road in the heart of Valpoi town has been in a pathetic condition. “Commuters are facing hardship due to potholes on the road, but authorities have not been attentive to offer a lasting solution. Responding to public requests, the PWD filled these potholes with the mud, but it was effective only for a day or two,” said Prabhu.
“Since the last one year, we have been demanding proper repair of the potholes, so that the roads are safe and smooth for motorists and pedestrians,” he added.
Prabhu along with other activists like Roshan Desai, Vishant Kasar, Antonio Pinto and Gabriel De Costa gathered at the site and planted flowers in the potholes. “Since the last one year, the State government has completely neglected road development in Sattari taluka and as a result, bad roads are present in several parts of the taluka,” Prabhu said.
